Weekend's Preview | FRECA & Euroformula Open at the Red Bull Ring, GB3 at Oulton Park
This weekend sebmotors.info will introduce all the European F3 categories - FRECA, Euroformula Open & GB3 - in one time. With the first two both racing at the Red Bull Ring in Austria and the GB3 at Oulton Park in England, a hectic week-end is certainly about to get off!
FRECA: Round 7 – This is actually the “Round 7” which the German flood deprived us: there will be in fact another round who will supply the whole left from the Nürburgring race in order to keep the same number of races this year. FRECA will therefore race in Valencia (Spain) on September 25th-26th.

FRECA: The Champ Is Back – Last year’s Formula Regional European Champion Gianluca Petecof (BRA) is surprisingly back with KIC! He started his 2021 campaign in Formula 2 alongside Campos Racing, but then could not keep the expenses of racing a whole season in the championship, also thanks to a number of car issues in his first appearances. These were his first words: “Great opportunity to stay fit and ready at a high level, while also helping the team in the development. Big Thank You to them for the confidence, let's get it done!” Another new face will join the paddock in Spielberg, as GB3 driver’s José Garfias (MEX) will switch championship, as he will drive for Monolite this weekend.
sebmotors.info’s TikTok Preview:
Euroformula Open: Shuffling Cards – In Euroformula Open many announcements were already made and many more are coming up in due course: former FRECA driver Brad Benavides (USA) is set to race for Carlin this weekend. The driver had already confirmed it at the end of August, recently confirmation came from the team too. Meanwhile, as Keszthelyi Vivien (HUN) looks not to be racing with Motopark anymore (still no confirmation from both sides on this), the former FIA F3 driver from Réunion Reshad de Gerus will race alongside the Americans Cameron Das & Jak Crawford for the German team. De Gerus’ first statements: “Extremely happy to join the Euroformula Open in Spielberg. Big thanks to Motopark for the opportunity.”
Euroformula Open: The Championship Fight – The contention for being the top driver in the standings is intensifying as the two already mentioned Americans from Motopark are first and third respectively in the standings. Cryptotower’s Louis Foster (UK) stands in between, just 4 points behind Cameron Das.

GB3: O’Sullivan Edging Closer to The Title – 116 points by the end of Race 3 is what Carlin’s Zak O’Sullivan (UK) would need to mathematically claim the drivers’ title one round early, but he seems to be not minding too much: “My mind set won’t change at all going into Oulton Park, I’ll just continue to do what I’ve been doing so far this season, and if that’s enough to clinch the title, awesome, if not, I’ll keep the same approach going into the last round at Donington Park. It would be awesome to win the championship full stop, let alone one round early.”
GB3: Drivers’ Moves – A family bereavement had prevented Douglas’ Reema Juffali (SAU) from racing at Silverstone, but she will be back this weekend. As previously mentioned, there will be just two Elite cars this weekend as Garfias will be racing in FRECA. Fortec’s Oliver Bearman (UK) will be in Austria too, as he is prioritising his Italian F4 commitments, being close to claiming the title there. Replacing him in the third Fortec seat will be last year’s British F4 champion Luke Browning (UK).

GB3: An Important Cause – During the August break the newly-rebranded GB3 championship took part in the Karting4MND event in Thruxton, promoted by Racing4Charity in support of the MND Association. The GB3 organisation took part forming a team with Fortec’s Roberto Faria (BRA), Dittmann’s Ayrton Simmons (UK) and Hitech’s Bart Horsten (AUS) & Sebastián Álvarez (MEX) and eventually got third in the race. MND stands for “Motor Neurone Disease” is an illness which affects the nerves called motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord. It is a life-shortening phenomenon which thence affects the way you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe and for which there is no cure. You can help the MND Association by donating here.
