It is the second round of season of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine at Barcelona, in support of the Formula 1 Aramco Gran Premio De España 2021. For this reason, many are the known faces around from Formula 1, with a couple of ones coming also from Euroformula Open as both Jak Crawford (USA) and Rafael Villagómez (MEX) will be contesting the FIA Formula 3 round at the same track. Many are also the drivers who are racing at home: in their drivers’ standings’ order, Prema’s David Vidales, Van Amersfoort’s Mari Boya & Lorenzo Fluxá & G4 Racing’s Belén García.

The latter was also present as an ambassador at the official presentation event of the Formula 1 Aramco Gran Premio De España 2021, along with both former Spanish F1 drivers Marc Gené and Pedro de la Rosa. Thence, thanks to the fact of being born in L’Ametlla del Vallés (11 km, 6 mi northern from the track) she is the driver born the closest to a track in which F1 Grand Prixs have been held there for 30 years. That is what she had to say about it: “To be at the F1 races is unbelievable. The simple fact of being with all the drivers, with my idols and to watch them so close is something amazing.”

As you can see in the standings' section of the website here, Vidales is just 4 points behind the top, which is held by ART GP’s Grégoire Saucy (CHE). They are also the two winners we have had so far from the two races in Imola, Italy this season.

Both ART GP’s Thomas ten Brinke (NED) and R-ace’s Léna Bühler (CHE) will finally be back! The Dutch man had a positive COVID test on the Friday of the Imola weekend. The Swiss on the other hand, had suffered a right-hand injury during the first testing session of the year almost two months ago at Imola. The Venezuelan Alessandro Famularo will then make his debut for G4 Racing as he was announced just the week after the first race of the season.
