Formula Regional | Minì Kept His Cool On A Cool Friday Morning

It has been Gabriele Minì who has set the best time of the two free practices, on a cold (but sunny) day in Emilia-Romagna.

Friday's Free Practice got underway in Imola with Arden Motorsport's Alex Quinn (GBR) on top in first practice. It was an unlucky session for many. The Brazilian Bortoleto from FA Racing was able to manage just six laps in total and actually it was also FRECA's organisation who experienced some major issues: live drivers' timing were not available during both sessions, an issue which was apparently caused by a black-out in Bigging Hill (London) where both F1TV & the app's live timing services are managed. The top 5 from Free Practice 1 is in the picture below.

In Free Practice 2 the track had an average improvement of almost five/seven tenths of a second. After having ended P11 in FP1, Minì (ITA) from ART GP made a stunning improvement of 1.3 seconds from the previous session and clinched the top of the standings. “It has been a good second session - Minì said - and me and my teammate Saucy, we are very close. I definitely can improve more, especially in the first sector.”

It was a good Friday also for Quinn, Van Amersfoort's Mari Boya (ESP) and Prema's David Vidales (ESP) who showed great consistency throughout the two sessions. Quinn reported after the session: “The track, but also the car, improved enormously from FP1 to FP2, and I am totally satisfied with that. I actually had a much better lap in FP1, while I know that in FP2 my best was not perfect, so there is good potential to improve more.”

It is also good smiles at ART Grand Prix as Gregoire Saucy (CHE) made it an ART one-two by lapping just seven hundredths slower than his teammate. That is what he said: ” I am very satisfied, but I know I can improve, especially in the third sector, in the last chicane. Tomorrow it is a matter of being fully focused and confirming the good work done.” The top 5 from Free Practice 2 is in the picture below.

Focusing on the other English-speaking drivers, the R-ace GP's Zane Maloney from Barbados made a good improvement from P14 in FP1 by getting into the top 10 in P8. Further down were DR Formula's Brad Benavides (USA) in P21 and JD Motorsport's Tommy Smith (AUS) in P26. The Australian had done better in FP1 in which he had got to P23.

The session was brought to an end a little bit earlier due to the waving of a red flag caused by Arden Motorsport's Nicola Marinangeli (ITA), which came to a halt just five minutes before the checkered flag.

Finally, it will only be 31 cars on track this weekend as MP Motorsport's Franco Colapinto (ARG) is at the Circuit de Catalunya racing in the European Le Mans Series.
