British F3 | Preview: Faria Starts Well at Silverstone & Mansell Happy

The BRDC British F3 Championship hits the track at Silverstone, Northamptonshire for the first out of two times the track will be visited during this year. It is a big emotion for some, while some other drivers will not be there at all.

The last time the BRDC British Formula 3 championship hit the track at Brands Hatch (resumed here), it was the weekend of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix and a whole month has now passed. The surprise for the young guns still remains, with many of the Under-17 guys impressing in the top places. Among those, Carlin’s Zak O’Sullivan (GBR) -who leads the championship-, Fortec’s Oliver Bearman (GBR) and Carlin’s Christian Mansell (AUS). All the standings after the Brands Hatch meeting are then available here.

As stated in the introduction to this article, not everyone will be in Silverstone. While there is no official news regarding Dittmann’s Alex Fores (GBR), Ollie Bearman is then prioritising Italian F4, which this is racing this weekend at Vallelunga (near Rome). The reason of this is because Bearman is leading the championship there.

Moving back to British F3, the cars have already hit the Silverstone track thanks to 4 testing sessions on Thursday. Fortec’s Brazilian Roberto Faria confirmed the good form shown during testing here a month ago, topping the timings once more. Douglas’ Sauber Junior Dexter Patterson (GBR) in the meantime was just thirty seven thousandths behind.

In the following there is what Christian Mansell said before the start of the weekend. The Australian also took part in the Euroformula Open meeting at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium last weekend and talked his first time in that championship:

“It's been a really good learning weekend. The track is super fast and it has been such a cool experience to race at Spa for the first time. Eau Rouge is such an insane corner and I've been having a ball.

[…] Overall, I'm happy with how the weekend has gone and I have to give thanks to everyone at Carlin for their efforts and giving me this opportunity. I can't wait to head back to the UK now and race at Silverstone!

[…] I’m really looking forward to racing on another grand prix track, one week after Spa! Silverstone is always a pleasure to drive in any car, but for this weekend I’m back with the boys at BRDC British F3. It should be a weekend with some interesting weather, so I’m excited!”
