British F3 | Preview: A Challenging Donington Park Coming Up

Updated: Jul 9

The BRDC British F3 Championship heads out to Castle Donington, Leicestershire for its third round of the season at Donington Park Circuit after a much shorter break - two weeks - compared to the rest periods we have had in the previous occasions.

It is a very short rest the one which stands between the two meetings of Silverstone and Donington Park but it looks enough to see our drivers fully recharged for what is to come. Silverstone was a foggy and rather cold action-packed weekend – as resumed here – but Hitech’s Reece Ushijima (JP) was able anyway to set his pace in order to bring two wins home. Fortec’s Brazilian Roberto Faria was also able to recover good points, as you can see in the up-to-date standings’ section here.

There were then a couple of things that were discovered/realised just after the Silverstone weekend had ended: after the stewards reviewed the episode, it was Hitech’s Bart Horsten (AUS) who was found guilty for his crash with Fortec’s Mikkel Grundtvig (DK) and so he will serve a five-place grid penalty at Donington’s Race 1. Dittmann’s Ayrton Simmons (UK) had on the other hand suffered an internal damage to the differential after his Brands Hatch’s Race 2 first lap accident.

There will still be some absent drivers this weekend: Fortec’s Oliver Bearman (UK) plans to commit to both Italian F4 and German F4 (ADAC Formula 4) this year. This means there will actually be very few occasions in which we will see him on track with F3 cars this year. Moving then onto Arden, Frederick Lubin (UK) will be replaced by Roman Bilinski (POL) due to health reasons not revealed yet but we wish Frederick to see him back soon. A replacement for this weekend, though, is bound to be announced in the next few days.

These are Ayrton Simmons’ thoughts before this weekend: “I’m very happy that it’s race week again, purely because we weren’t able to show our true pace at Silverstone. I’m glad that it’s quite a quick turnaround for us to prove that we are as quick as we were at Brands. This is an opportunity for us to bounce back as a team and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve never had a pole position at Donington or a race win, I’ve had a few podiums, so I’m looking to grab my first victory and my first pole too. That would be a great start to the weekend for sure.”
